The Final Score transforms K-pop fandom into a language-learning experience by allowing fans to practice Korean pronunciation through karaoke.
Instead of scoring pitch or volume, the feature evaluates pronunciation accuracy, turning a familiar cultural behavior into a meaningful learning moment.
With real-time feedback and personalized pronunciation reports, learning feels more like fandom than study.

K-pop fans connect deeply with music, but traditional karaoke systems only evaluate pitch and volume, overlooking pronunciation—the most critical element of language learning.
The challenge wasn’t motivation, but the absence of a system that could turn singing into meaningful language practice.

A K-pop karaoke mode was designed within the Duolingo app, allowing users to sing along to songs while receiving real-time pronunciation feedback.
After each session, users receive personalized pronunciation reports, turning a single performance into an iterative learning loop rather than a one-off interaction.

Language learning was reframed as a participatory experience rather than a task.
By embedding pronunciation feedback directly into an activity users already love, The Final Score created a system where learning could happen continuously, intuitively, and without friction.
